Hi @Geoffrey23,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Chromebook that does not boot.

Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

Force Restart: Hold down the power button for about 10 seconds until it shuts off. Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.

Check for Updates: If you can access the settings (even if the screen goes dark), try pressing Ctrl + Esc or Alt + Esc after clicking the settings wheel to see if that brings you back to the menu.

Powerwash (Factory Reset): If you're able to navigate at all, you can perform a Powerwash to reset the Chromebook. Press Ctrl + Shift + Alt + R, then click "Restart" and follow the prompts to reset. This will erase all local data, so be cautious if you have anything important saved.

Boot in Recovery Mode: If the above steps don’t work, you can try booting into recovery mode. Turn off the Chromebook, then press and hold the Esc and Refresh keys (the circular arrow), and then press the Power button. Release all the keys when you see the recovery screen. You might need to follow the prompts to recover the OS.

If the issue still persists, Please follow the steps below to further troubleshoot.

  • Unplug from mains power and perform a Hardware Reset
  • Settings > Advanced > Restore settings to their original defaults in case an extension is interfering
  • Powerwash in case your profile has become corrupted
  • Recovery to ensure your OS is pristine.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
