Hello everyone,

I am facing an issue related to the Kali Linux boot, I installed Kali Linux on my hp laptop with secure boot disabled and now that Kali has been installed successfully without any issues.

I enabled the secure boot again thinking that both my OS are in good shape and thenn this stupid bios won't allow Kali to boot even the grub is not coming up also at the top left corner of the screen it says Reset System......

And if I disabled the secure boot woooshhh!!!!! Kali is back, but I want to keep it enabled cause it came enabled when I bought this laptop but I want to use Kali tooo.

So can anybody help me with this !!!!!?

Hi @mob_learner

because Kali linux does not recognize the secure boot, that is exactly why in their support they indicate the following :

Installing Kali Linux | Kali Linux Documentation

  1. In the UEFI settings, ensure that Secure Boot is disabled. The Kali Linux kernel is not signed and will not be recognized by Secure Boot.

@Resistencia Thank you for responding to my question it means a lot and, yes I know Kali Linux doesn't recognise secure boot that's why we install it after disabling secure boot I have read the documentation.....

But what I am asking is solution for this, like I have installed it and it is working fine when secure boot is disabled, the issue arises when I Enabled secure boot again - it does not allow the grub to load also displays "Reset System" i.e I can't boot in neither in Kali nor in windows until I disable secure boot. I installed Shim-Signed in Kali so that it can be recognised by the efi loader but no luck🥲

So I want to know how I can resolve this issue????? Enabled secure boot, and can boot in both Windows and Kali Linux !!!!!!

Of course, if you activate it, Kali does not recognize the secure boot (UEFI) and cannot boot. Nothing can be done if the Kali developers do not implement a Secure boot installation.

@Resistencia Thank you for the reply 😊 so that means nothing can be done until the developer implement secure boot installation.

OK!!!

Also one more thing, Is it okayy if I keep secure boot disabled or is there any harm in that because I have to use them both for my learning purpose that's why I m asking.

And if there is a problem in keeping secure boot disabled what are the precautions I should take or follow to keep my m/c safe and secure also what can I do so that secure boot does not affect the system!!

windows 11 needs secure boot enabled to work, if you use windows 10 you will have no problems. About KaliI recommend you to use a different Linux distribution.

I know I m taking your time so just on more thing -for me Windows 11 is working fine even with secure boot disabled I can boot in it after changing the OS preferences it's just only Kali doesn't boot once it's enabled

So is it okay to keep it disabled or will it cause any trouble in near future

windows 11 may fail in a major update, but I can't say for sure.
