Hi @Jay211_314,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Notebook - 15-bs134wm is prompting you for a boot disk and indicating that it needs an operating system, it means that either the hard drive doesn't have an operating system installed or the system is unable to locate it. Here are the steps to diagnose and resolve the issue:
1. Check BIOS/UEFI Settings
First, ensure that your BIOS/UEFI settings are correctly configured to recognize the hard drive and boot from it.
- Restart your computer and press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
- Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
- Navigate to the Boot tab to ensure that your hard drive is listed and set as the primary boot device.
- Save any changes and exit the BIOS.
2. Check Hard Drive Connection
It's possible that the hard drive is not properly connected or has failed.
- Turn off your laptop and remove the battery (if possible).
- Open the back cover and check the connections of the hard drive.
- Reseat the hard drive to ensure a good connection.
3. Run Hardware Diagnostics HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics tools.
- Turn on the laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
- Press F2 to run System Diagnostics.
- Select Hard Drive Check and run the test.
If the hard drive fails the test, it may need to be replaced.
4. Reinstall Windows 10
If the hard drive is detected and in good condition, you may need to reinstall Windows 10. Here’s how to do it:
a. Create a Windows 10 Installation Media
You’ll need a USB drive (at least 8GB) and access to another computer.
- Go to the HP PCs - Installing Windows 10 page.
- Download the Media Creation Tool and run it.
- Select Create installation media for another PC.
- Follow the prompts to create a bootable USB drive.
b. Install Windows 10
- Insert the USB drive into your HP Notebook.
- Turn on the laptop and press Esc repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
- Press F9 to open the Boot Device Options.
- Select the USB drive from the list and press Enter.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 10.
5. Activation
Once Windows 10 is installed, it should automatically activate if your laptop previously had an activated copy of Windows 10.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
