HP 2023 Newest Laptop, Model-15 dy2702dx
Microsoft Windows 11

After having gotten home from work, I brought my laptop downstairs to play some games on with family, moments into just starting I’m notified that my battery is almost dead, at 10%, despite being plugged in. My battery then dies and any attempts to change charging port or power my laptop back on results in a black screen and the power LED blinking three times in a row when the power button is pressed. I’m unable to turn the laptop on or do anything, it wont charge either.

Hi @ADRhodes2024,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP 15 laptop seems to be related to a hardware problem, possibly with the battery, charging circuit, or motherboard. Here are some steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.

Steps to Troubleshoot

Power Reset

  • Unplug the laptop from the power source.
  • Remove the battery (if it's removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 15-20 seconds.
  • Reinsert the battery (if removable) and plug in the power adapter.
  • Try turning on the laptop again.

Check Power Adapter and Charging Port

  • Ensure that the power adapter is working correctly. You can test it with another compatible device if available.
  • Inspect the charging port for any visible damage or debris. Clean it gently if necessary.

Inspect Battery

  • If the battery is removable, try using the laptop with the battery removed and only the power adapter connected. If the laptop powers on, the issue might be with the battery.

Perform Hard Reset

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external monitors, etc.).
  • Repeat the power reset steps mentioned above.
  • Press and hold the Windows key + B, and then press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds. Release the power button but continue holding the Windows key + B until you see or hear something (this might trigger a BIOS recovery).

Reseat RAM

  • If you're comfortable opening your laptop, try reseating the RAM. This involves:
    • Turning off the laptop and unplugging it.
    • Opening the back cover (refer to your laptop's manual for instructions).
    • Carefully removing and reinserting the RAM modules.
    • Closing the back cover and trying to power on the laptop again.

If the Issue Persists

  • Battery Replacement: If your battery is non-removable and the laptop does not power on without the battery, it might be worth considering a battery replacement.

Since your laptop shows symptoms of not charging and not powering on despite various attempts, it strongly suggests a deeper hardware issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
