I have a laptop shut down problem and have tried about everything and nothing seems to work. From starting my laptop on Windows 7 professional 64bit exactly after 30 minutes the laptop shut down as if there is no power doesn't matter what percentage battery and then when I restart it, it gives me the "start windown normally or safe mode" options. I have the battery setting at never shut down... The laptop shuts down when on power supply and on battery supply. I have done a battery and power cord test and all checks ok. I have changed the battery as well and still no luck, exactly at 30 minutes from startup the laptop just goes dead.
It is not high temperature, cause I have installed fan speed and al the temps are running around 35-43°C when it shuts down. I even cleaned the cpu heat fins, which were not dirty.
I have 4 Gig Ram and it's an i5 processor with 320Gig harddrive. I only have Windows and Microsoft office 2007 installed on it. I bought the laptop just like that... nothing else installed on it. I only did windows update and updated all drivers, thinking that it might solve the problem, but still no luck.
What can be wrong, I am now clueless...

As I understand, notebook shut down after half an hour
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
When was the last time it worked fine?
Were there any hardware/software changes made?
Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:
Check the functionality when PC is in BIOS:
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
Stay in BIOS for half an hour and check if the notebook shut down.
If the notebook shut down being in BIOS, then it is a hardware issue and you need to contact our phone support:
1) Click on this link - https://hp.care/2moMFSc
2) Click on "Continue as guest".
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Click on "Show Options".
Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
If it remains on while being on BIOS, I suggest you run a system test:
- Press the Power button to turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second, until you see HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- From the UEFI main menu, click System Tests, then click Quick Test.
- Click Run once.
- While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component are shown on the screen. The test can take up to 15 minutes.
- If no system component failed, please go back to main menu and Exit from the screen
- If a component fails a test, write down the information so you have it available when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu.
Also, update BIOS following steps from the link: https://hp.care/2CoT1sh
Keep me posted,
Have a great day 🙂
Cheers 🙂

Thank you for your reply.
I bought the laptop as is from someone. It did it from the start. Only thing I can see changed is that on the back of the laptop is shows that it was a Windows 8 OS, but now it's got Windows 7 pro on.
It is also shutting down in BIOS. I've also scheduled a scan disc from Windows and when the laptop is restarted doing the disc scan, it also shuts down exactly after 30 minutes and does not finish the scan. I have done the memory check and disc check from the UEFI (F2) and they both turned up successful with no problems. This scan finished within the 30 minutes from startup.
I updated the BIOS, but still the laptop shuts off at 30 minutes.
I also put the hard drive in my other laptop and no shut down on that laptop.
The only thing I think of now is to replace the motherboard, which could be damaged.

Thank you for responding,
It's great to have you back 😉
I'm afraid you are right, please contact HP as advised before to have the device repaired,
as its either the motherboard or the Power supply unit (charger port) within the charger.
