About a week ago I was having issues with my Laptop's battery power. It eventually got to the point where it wouldn't last 3 minutes without the charger plugged in. It reached the point where the moment I disconnected the charger from a power outlet, the laptop would die instantly. Then, it just wouldn't turn on, period, even while plugged in. I ordered a new battery and charged that to full power, but the laptop still didn't turn on. I tried the standard procedure of holding down the power button while it wasn't charging for a minute, and that didn't work. I know the charger isn't broken because there was an orange light that turned on when I plugged it in, and then it turned to a white light when the battery was fully charged. I'm stumped as to what to do next.

When I replaced the battery, the laptop booted up, but I had to leave for a hour or two and figured it would just “go to sleep” till I got back to look at it. But it will not turn on anymore, although the little white charging light blinks every time I press the “on” button. Is this what would happen if the motherboard was dead?
