HP Envy x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-fh0000 (77W45AV)

My laptop won't turn on. When I press the power button the LED on the charging port blinks 3 times but there is no fan activity or any noises to indicate anything is happening. I have tried all of the suggestions I can find online: tried different charges, tried different plugs, tried holding power for 60 seconds with the charger unplugged and then plugged back in and tried turning on... nothing works. I'm assuming based on everything I am reading that it is the batter. Unfortunately it is an internal battery so I can't take it out myself. i went to customer support to see what I can do and the warranty literally expired today so there are no useful options there. What can I do? Seems crappy that the battery and/or system died on the day the warranty expired... there's got to be something that can be done.

Hi @elhaplo

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing a frustrating issue with your HP laptop not turning on, especially with the warranty expiring just as you encounter a problem. However, don't worry! There are still some steps you can try to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue, even if you can't remove the internal battery yourself.

Here’s what you can try:

1. Perform a Hard Reset (Power Drain)

You mentioned you've tried holding the power button, but just to be thorough, try the hard reset again in a specific sequence:

  1. Disconnect the power adapter and remove any external devices (USB drives, etc.).
  2. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
  3. Plug in the charger, ensuring it's securely connected, and then try turning on the laptop.

This process can sometimes help reset any internal components that might have been stuck in a powered-down state.

2. Check for Battery Indicator Lights or Beep Codes

  • Since you mentioned the LED on the charging port blinks 3 times, it's important to check if this might be signaling a specific issue. HP laptops often use LED blink codes to indicate hardware problems, such as issues with the motherboard or the battery.
  • Consult the HP LED Blink Code documentation on the HP website for your specific model. A 3-blink pattern may indicate a problem with the battery or motherboard.
    • For example, 3 blinks could potentially point to battery failure, but this can vary based on model.

3. Try a Different Power Adapter

  • Even if you've already tried a different charger, ensure that it's compatible with your laptop and provides the correct voltage and amperage.
  • A faulty power adapter might be delivering insufficient power to the laptop, preventing it from turning on.

4. Inspect the Charging Port and Cable

  • Check if the charging port on the laptop is clean and undamaged. Sometimes dirt or debris can prevent proper power delivery.
  • If possible, try gently wiggling the charging cable while plugged in to see if there are any loose connections.

5. Use HP Diagnostics (if possible)

  • If your laptop is still responding in some way, try using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Turn it on and immediately start pressing F2 repeatedly until the HP Diagnostics menu appears.
    • You can run a battery test and see if it detects any issues, even with the internal battery.

6. Test Without the Battery (if accessible)

  • If your laptop's battery is removable, and you can access it (for example, via a removable panel or compartment), try turning it on without the battery, just using the charger.
    • If the laptop powers on without the battery, the issue might be with the internal battery itself.
  • Since you mentioned that your battery is internal, this step may not be feasible, but if you can reach out to HP service, they might offer assistance in removing or replacing the battery.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
