Hi @cmp379,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is not turning on and you're experiencing a blinking light near the power port, it could indicate a hardware or power issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check Power Connection:

  • Ensure that the power adapter is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
  • Try using a different power outlet or power adapter if available.

Remove External Devices:

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, printers, etc.) from the laptop.
  • Sometimes, a faulty external device can cause startup issues.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the laptop battery (if removable).
  • Hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter (and reinsert the battery if it's removable).
  • Attempt to turn on the laptop.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the power cord and the laptop's power port for any visible damage.
  • Ensure there are no loose connections or broken parts.

Test with Another Power Adapter:

  • If possible, try using a different compatible power adapter to see if the issue persists.

Reseat RAM and Hard Drive:

  • If you're comfortable with it and your laptop allows for it, try reseating the RAM modules and the hard drive.

External Monitor Test:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue is with the laptop display.

Check for LED Diagnostic Codes:

  • Some HP laptops have diagnostic LEDs that blink in specific patterns to indicate hardware issues. Refer to your laptop's manual for information on interpreting these codes.

Perform System Diagnostics:

  • Some HP laptops have built-in diagnostics. You can access these by pressing a specific key during startup (often Esc, F2, or F12). Run a diagnostic test to check for hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
