Linux

I just bought this laptop with FreeDOS. I installed Linux Mint 20 and deleted FreeDOS and this went successfully. Then I updated it and rebooted. HP logo came up, then error message(this also came up when I was installing Linux Mint but since it went smoothly I didn't think it was a problem), then Mint logo, then a blank screen with a white dash in the upper left corner, then just a blank screen and it stays that way and doesn't boot. If I repeat this, then it will randomly boot after a few tries and everything else after that works fine. Then I discovered that it will always successfully boot while I'm charging my laptop and then I can stop charging it without issue. Error message(copied from Logs):

Specifications:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3500u with integrated Vega 8 GPU

RAM: 8 GB

SSD: 512 GB

OS: Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon, Kernel 5.4, Ubuntu 20.04

After many failed attempts at solving this problem, I upgraded to Kernel 5.7 and the problem was solved(although I still got the error message), but Wi-Fi doesn't work so I downgraded to Kernel 5.4.

What didn't fix the problem:

- Performed a Hard Reset

- Booted with "nomodeset", "pcie=noaer" and a few others

- Booted in Recovery mode

- Booted Kernel before update( from 5.4.42 to 5.4.26)

Keep in mind I'm a Linux noob and OS noob. This issue is not a big problem but I'm worried that it might become one day.

I'm sorry, but HP only warranties their PCs for usage with the OS that comes preinstalled.

IF you replace that with a Linux distro, or add a Linux distro, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- including solving any problems with booting the other OS and/or installing the other OS.

Your best bet for support with issues with Linux is to contact the support forum of the distro you are using.
