Hello,

I purchased a HP Pavillion laptop in April 2025 from their website. In October, it restarted constantly and eventually accepted my bitlocker code on the third attempt. Laptop ran as normal until today. It has been in a constant state of restart.

I have tried:

System files check SFC - no issues

Bit locker - Just goes back to restarting

Uninstalled updates - restarting still

Local reset & hard reset- restarting still

F2 HP diagnostics - were all clear no issues

Please help as I do not know what to do next to fix this constant restarting. I do not want to lose any of my files by doing a factory reset.

Many thanks

Hi @MrsD27,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues with your HP Pavilion laptop. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Run a comprehensive hardware diagnostic using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI by pressing F2 during startup. Ensure all major components (like RAM and hard drive) pass the tests. If specific components fail, it may indicate a hardware issue.

BIOS Update:

  • Sometimes, updating the BIOS might resolve startup issues. Ensure your BIOS is the latest version by downloading any updates from the HP Support Website.

Reset BIOS Settings:

  • Enter the BIOS setup during boot by pressing F10 and reset to default settings. This can sometimes resolve conflicts.

Check for Boot Order:

  • Ensure the hard drive is set as the first boot device in BIOS settings.

Disconnect External Devices:

  • Remove any connected peripherals like USB drives, external hard disks, or printers to rule out conflicts.

Safe Mode Boot:

  • Try booting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during startup. If the laptop runs in Safe Mode, there might be a driver or software conflict.

HP Recovery Options:

  • Use HP Recovery Manager to restore the laptop to an earlier state or perform a system recovery to restore the original factory settings, accessible by pressing F11 during startup.

Reinstall Windows:

  • As a last resort, consider reinstalling the operating system using a recovery USB or disc if the above steps don’t help.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
