Laptop dead and won't charge

i have an internal battery and my laptop won't charge. i tried other adapters that worked on other laptops but will not work on mine. my laptop is dead. before it died i got a popup that said plugged in and not charging. i don't know if i need a new battery or is there something wrong with the computer? i spent 1100 dollars on this computer and it should last longer than a few years. 

i have called tech support and was told just buy a new laptop. i don't have money laying around to do that.

I feel your pain.  I've been through this.  Will your computer run even though the battery won't charge (if the computer is plugged into the wall).
