My HP17" laptop will not boot up, run UEFI diagnostics, it passed "Smart Check", failed "Short DST", the failure ID is:
"UBQFL8-98RA04-MFGJ3F-60XG03". The warranty just passed a couple of months ago. Could someone help me, and let me know how can I replace the hard disk? Do I need a boot-up disk with Windows'10 recovery system? unfortunately I did not make the back up disk before, thank you in advance for any help you may provide here! Jim

Hi
The error message is indeed a hardware failure... Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure
From 2016 onwards there is a possible recovery option via the cloud...
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 7 & 10)

Having a 1.0TB SATA hard disk drive - 5,400 RPM, 7.0mm form factor - Raw drive, does not include hard drive bracket or screws.
So shop around and find what suits you best.
A caddy to mount the old drive in with the hope of recovering data may be a good idea, but not guaranteed to work.
With Manuals etc here......
If in doubt please ask.

Hi, Lil_Boy_Blue:
Thank you so much for your help, I followed your directions and downloaded "HP Cloud Recovery Tool" into a 32GB USB drive. Then I power the laptop on and press "ESC" key. I pressed "F9", It led me to the boot option, then I selected "boot from USB drive", but it stopped there. The Windows system never backed on. so my follow up question is: Do I need to replace the bad hard disc first with the new one in order for the "recovery disk" to work? or my laptop had more serious problem?
Thanks again!
Jim
