Hi, as the title says, my Laptop (HP Pavilion 14 ec0000nl) does't wake up from suspend (after closing the lid). It does wake up if i re-open it in less than ~10 seconds but it does not if it stays closed for longer. It happens on both Windows 11 and Fedora.

A weird behavior I noticed is that the first time I open the lid, and it does not wake up, the light on power button pulses as if it was still suspended, if then I close and open again the lid, the light becomes fixed.

All started once I swapped the old 4x2 memory module to 8x2 (ct102464bf832b.c16fpd) but the momory modules appear to be correctly recognized.

Until now i tried:

  • Different kernel (6.14, 6.16 and 6.17)

  • Clean install of Fedora 42, 43 and Windows 11

  • BIOS update

  • Changing power/battery settings

Any ideas to fix? Thank you.

Hi @FraDepe

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed description—this kind of behavior after suspension can feel frustrating, especially when everything else seems to be working. Let’s focus on restoring smooth wake-up functionality in Windows 11. (Note: We do not support Linux)

Since the issue began after a memory upgrade and persists across clean installs, it’s likely tied to how the system handles low-power states with the new configuration. Here’s a focused recovery guide:

Step-by-step troubleshooting for Windows 11

1. Disable Modern Standby (S0) and Use S3 Sleep

Some HP Pavilion models use Modern Standby, which can conflict with certain hardware upgrades.

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Click Change plan settings next to your active plan.
  • Select Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand Sleep > Sleep after and Hibernate after—set both to reasonable values (e.g., 15 minutes).
  • Expand Power buttons and lid > Lid close action and set it to Sleep.
  • Save changes and restart.

To confirm if your system supports S3 sleep:

  • Open Command Prompt and run:
    powercfg /a
If S3 is listed but not available, it may be disabled in BIOS.

2. Check BIOS Sleep Configuration

  • Restart and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Power Management Options.
  • Look for settings like Sleep Mode, Modern Standby, or Wake on Lid Open.
  • If available, switch from Modern Standby to Legacy S3 Sleep.
  • Save and exit.

3. Run HP Diagnostics

To rule out hardware conflicts:

  • Use the HP App to run a System Test, focusing on Memory and Power diagnostics.
  • This helps confirm if the new RAM is fully compatible under sleep conditions.

4. Update Chipset and Power Drivers

5. Test Wake Behavior with Lid and Power Button

  • Close the lid and wait 30 seconds.
  • Open the lid and press the power button once (don’t hold).
  • Observe if the light changes and the screen activates.
  • If it doesn’t, close and reopen the lid again—this can help determine if the wake signal is being missed.

If the issue continues, it may be related to how the system transitions between sleep states with the upgraded memory. You can also test with the original RAM to compare behavior, just to isolate the variable.

Let me know how the system responds after these steps—I’ll be here to help fine-tune it further.

Hi, thank you for the response.

In the BIOS I don't have any Advanced settings tab or button.
I wanted to try running HP App but you linked me an old site and the drivers link bring me on the wrong laptop (HP Z4 G4 Workstation(1JP11AV)).

Can you please send the correct link for the HP App? Or is ok to use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI?

Thank you

I tried running HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI and it found 0 errors, ram modules passed all the tests. I will check if the modules are correctly in place
