HP ENVY x360 Convertible 13-ag0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Envy x360 with Ryzen 2500U freezes when I close the lid. This is accompanied by increased fan noise and heat. The only way to recover is to long-press the power button to power down the device, and then reboot. I have updated all drivers using the HP Support Assistant.

My power settings are set the "Sleep" for closing the lid.

Yes, my computer was up to date on drivers from Windows and HP.

The problem is that HP doesn't have current drivers for AMD hardware for Windows v2004, which is what I was running. I have now gone through the painful process of reverting Windows back to v1903, which is the latest version that HP has AMD drivers for on their website.

If you come across this issue and have just upgraded to v2004, GO BACK IMMEDIATELY! You have 10 days to do it easily using Windows, after that you are stuck.

I was warned that HP providing the AMD drivers for this machine was going to be a problem, and I didn't listen. I will not make that mistake again.

@Bobomo

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is freezing when you close the lid.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Usually, when you close the lid the computer goes to sleep when you open the lid is the computer not waking up from sleep?

Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS from the below link and check if it helps.

If the issue persists, then install all the Windows updates (Including optional) and check.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Select the Start (Windows) button from the bottom-left corner.
  2. Go to settings (gear icon).
  3. Select the Update and Security icon.
  4. Choose Windows Update tab in the sidebar (Circular arrows)
  5. Select Check for updates. If there is an available update, it will begin downloading automatically.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I am glad to hear that the issue is resolved.

I recommend you wait until the drivers for Windows 2004 are available for your computer and then you can update Windows.

Cheers!
