Notebook - 15-db0018nm

Hi, I just tried to update my BIOS to the newest version (it's supposed to help with Windows 2004 optimization and I've had been having issues with it locking up)

I was using HP Assistant, which installed HP BIOS Utility. PC was plugged in and it rebooted after utility finished "rashing BIOS". Then it booted kind of, with a "Programming PEI Region" message, after which screen just shut down. Fans are blowing hard, but nothing else is responsive.

After like 40 minutes of that I tried to shut it down, but pressing power button wasn't doing anything. I unplugged it but the charger indicator is still white (meaning it's detected as plugged in)

At this point I'm hoping the battery dies soon cause I can't do anything else with it. Any ideas as to what has caused this and how to proceed once it finally shuts down?

Hi, I ended up leaving the laptop unplugged for about 6 hours, that's how long it took for the battery to die.

Then I plugged it in, at which point it froze again. I let it die again, and then tried the BIOS recovery steps from HP site (I think it's WIN+B or V). At first those didn't do much, it froze once again, but then on 3rd try it showed me a screen that said NO BIOS BACKUP and it just booted into Windows 10 .-.

Seems like the update got installed too. Super weird, not something I want to repeat.

And I see you asked for pic of the screen, I only have this one: Q9IgRoC

As you can see, it's nothing special. Screen was literally off. Nothing was working except the fans

I can't see the picture.

First, let's start with performing a hard reset on the PC to release any excessive static/power that could have caused the issue.

Turn off the computer.

Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.

Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.

Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.

Second, you can check if there is BIOS update available for your PC, here is the link to download.

Performing a test on the Hard drive as well as on the Memory from the Hardware diagnostics:
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once for System Diagnostics.
4) Go to Component test.
5) Run extensive Memory and Hard Drive test.

Depending on the test results, If the test passes then I would suggest you perform a complete system recovery.

Note: Recovery will wipe off everything from the computer. If you have anything important get in touch with some local stores to get your data backed up.
