@Charley_124, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Laptop That Won't Turn On!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP laptop isn't turning on and sometimes the screen flashes, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Check the Power Source:
- Ensure your laptop is properly connected to a power source.
- Check if the power outlet is working by plugging in another device.
Inspect the Power Adapter and Battery:
- Examine the power adapter for any visible damage.
- Disconnect the power adapter from the laptop.
- Remove the battery (if removable) and press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge any residual electricity.
- Reconnect the battery and adapter, then try turning on the laptop again.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- For laptops with a removable battery:
- Remove the battery and unplug the power cord.
- Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reinsert the battery and plug in the power cord, then try to power on the laptop.
- For laptops with a sealed or non-removable battery:
- Unplug the power cord.
- Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord, then try to power on the laptop.
Check for Indicator Lights:
- Look for any lights on the laptop when you press the power button.
- If lights are blinking or flashing, refer to your laptop’s specific pattern code for diagnostics (refer to HP support for beep or light code meanings).
External Devices:
- Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, printer, etc.) that might be connected to the laptop.
- Try to power on the laptop again.
Attempt to Boot in Safe Mode:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press the power button and start repeatedly pressing the F8 key (or Shift + F8) to access the Safe Mode menu.
- Select "Safe Mode" and try booting into Windows.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
