I have a hp pavillion 15 laptop. When I turn it on the power button lights up but goes off in 2-3 seconds. Tried all possible ways of force start but nothing is working

Hi @Abhiabhi3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion 15 laptop where the power light turns on for a few seconds and then shuts off without starting. Let’s go through a few checks.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the power adapter from the laptop.
  • Remove any USB devices, external drives, or memory cards.
  • If the battery is removable, remove it from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds.
  • Reconnect only the power adapter (leave the battery out if removable) and try turning the laptop on.

Note: This clears residual electrical charge that may prevent the system from starting.

Check the Power Adapter and Charging Indicator

  • Plug the power adapter directly into a wall outlet.
  • Connect it to the laptop and observe the charging LED near the charging port.
  • Confirm whether the light stays solid, blinking, or off.
  • Try another compatible outlet if the light does not appear.

Test Startup With Minimal Hardware

  • Disconnect all external devices from the laptop.
  • Leave only the power adapter connected.
  • Press the Power button once and watch for:
  • Fan movement
  • Keyboard backlight
  • Screen activity
  • If the light still turns off after a few seconds, attempt the start again after waiting 30 seconds.

Check the Display

  • Turn the laptop on again.
  • Watch the screen closely for any HP logo or brief flash of light.
  • Increase the screen brightness using the Fn + brightness key.
  • If possible, connect the laptop to an external monitor using HDMI.
  • Turn the laptop on to see if video appears on the external display.

Attempt the BIOS Recovery Key Combination

  • Turn the laptop completely off.
  • Press and hold Windows key + B.
  • While holding the keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the Power button but keep holding Windows + B for about 10 seconds.
  • Watch for the BIOS recovery screen or system fan activity.

Note: If the power light turns off after a few seconds with no fan, display, or keyboard activity, it can indicate a hardware-level startup issue such as memory seating, power circuitry, or system board initialization.a

I hope this helps.
