Hi @Godsdaughter742,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP laptop is experiencing a power or hardware-related issue. Try the following troubleshooting steps.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  2. Press and hold the power button for 30-60 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  3. Plug the charger back in (without the battery, if removable) and try turning it on.

Check for Power Issues

  • Check the power adapter & charging port: Ensure the charger is working by testing with another device or using a different power outlet.
  • Look for LED indicator lights: If the charger light blinks or does not turn on, there may be a power issue.

Identify the Blinking Pattern

  • If the Caps Lock or Tab key is blinking, count the blinks and note if there is a pause. Different blinking patterns indicate specific hardware issues (e.g., RAM failure, motherboard issue).

Try an External Display

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor to check if it’s a display issue.

Reseat the RAM (if possible)

If your laptop has accessible RAM:

  1. Remove the back panel.
  2. Take out the RAM stick(s) and reinsert them.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Godsdaughter742,

Thank you for the response.

If your HP Pavilion 16-inch laptop is not turning on and the Caps Lock key blinks once, it indicates a CPU-related failure (according to HP’s diagnostic blink codes). However, before assuming a hardware failure, try these additional steps:

Hard Reset (Try Again)

Since your battery is not removable:

Unplug the power adapter.

Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds.

Plug the charger back in and try turning it on.

If it doesn’t turn on, try holding the Windows + B keys and then pressing the power button for 2-3 seconds to attempt a BIOS recovery.

Check for Display Issues

Try connecting your laptop to an external monitor via HDMI.

If the external display works, your laptop screen may be faulty.

Check for Overheating

If the laptop was overheating before shutting down, it may have triggered a thermal shutdown.

Let it cool for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power it on again.

RAM Reset (If Possible)

If your laptop allows access to the RAM slots, try:

Removing and reinserting the RAM stick.

If you have two RAM sticks, try booting with one at a time.

Power Drain Using BIOS Reset

Turn off the laptop and disconnect the charger.

Press and hold Windows + V keys, then press the power button for 2-3 seconds.

If the HP BIOS Reset screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.
