Okay so I was watching a youtube video and turned away from my screen and I heard a pop-up noise when I turned to look my laptop is off, I thought it was dead but it was plugged in so ig not. The charging light won’t turn on and nothing is working I tried holding my the power button for 15-20 sec and windows key + B + power button. I don’t think I can take the battery out and even if I could I have no clue how to. I will say I leave it on the charger a lot so maybe it’s excessive charging?? I dont know but Im freaking out.

Hi @zigzaggity

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I'm so sorry you're going through this—it sounds incredibly stressful! Rest assured, it's not unusual to feel overwhelmed when something like this happens, but it's likely there’s a solution.

Excessive charging could contribute to battery issues, but let's not jump to conclusions yet. You've already done a great job trying common troubleshooting methods.

It's possible that this could be a simple issue like a power adapter or internal hardware glitch, and with the right guidance, we can sort it out.

You're not alone in this, and we'll figure it out! 😊

Let's take it step by step to try to resolve this. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check the Power Adapter and Connection

  • Ensure the power adapter is securely plugged into both the wall outlet and your laptop.
  • Verify that the outlet itself is working by plugging in another device.
  • Inspect the charging cable and adapter for any visible damage, like frayed wires or bent connectors. If possible, test with a different compatible charger.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the charger and any external devices connected to your laptop (like USBs or peripherals).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect the charger and try turning on the laptop.

3. Check for Power or Charging Indicators

  • Observe whether the charging light (if applicable) comes on when the adapter is connected.
  • If the light does not turn on, it could indicate an issue with the adapter, charging port, or battery.

4. Reset with Windows Key + B

  • As you’ve tried, repeat the Windows Key + B + Power Button method:
    • Turn off your laptop completely.
    • Hold down Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
    • Release all keys and wait for the laptop to enter BIOS recovery mode.

5. Test Without Battery (if removable)

  • If your laptop’s battery is removable, try running the laptop with just the charger connected (and no battery installed). This can help identify if the issue lies with the battery.

6. Perform a Visual Inspection

  • If you feel comfortable, check the laptop's vents for debris and the charging port for dust or obstructions. Use compressed air to clean these areas gently.
