My laptop shuts down a few seconds after boot as if there is no power, even when it is plugged in to the charger. I get a low battery warning upon startup saying that the battery may need to be replaced. However, if I let the battery charge while off, the charge indicator light quickly turns white, indicating the battery is fully charged.

I have been unable to run any type of diagnostic on the battery because the only way to fully boot the computer is to remove the battery and keep it plugged in. Reinserting the battery causes the laptop to quickly shut down as if it has no power, even though it is still plugged in to the wall.

Hi @RJE2005

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Appreciate you trying the steps. This looks like a hardware issue, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Have a great day!
