OMEN by HP - 15-ce019na

Every time I press on the main power button to put the computer to sleep for a bit

I have had this issue since I had this machine but never had time to ask for help. After putting the computer to sleep for a short while, using the main physical power button above the keyboard, the computer keeps going to sleep mode again after 2 to 4 minutes of no use.

I have looked online but couldn't find anything, done all the basic checks in the Power & Sleep and have both the ''Screen and Sleep'' set for ''Never'' for turn off after and for plugged in and battery power, all four to Never. I have looked under Power Options under advanced settings and I have already disabled all the sleep timers fir USB Settings and Power buttons and lid, there is nothing here to say the computer should go to sleep after a certain amount of time of inactivity. I also have ''Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'' unticked under Device Manager, like Bluetooth, Network adapters and so on, and I have just double checked again to make sure nothing is ticked and they all are unticked. Also I've got the fan spinning all the time with 47*c showing in omen command centre with only one google chrome tab open and no other running programs.

Anyone else got this issue please let me know thanks

@Shant007

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, you're in need of support,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

Have you tried updating the BIOS?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

BIOS update: Click the link and follow steps.

Uninstall and reinstall display drivers:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
  • Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphics drivers from this link: www.hp.com/drivers

Restore the power plan to default:

Search for Control Panel > Select Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Edit plan settings > Select "Restore default settings for this plan"

If the issue persists, create a new user account and check.

Let me know how this goes,

Cheers!

Thanks David, I am just reading through the replies on the linked web page you've provided. I will first try the hidden setting in the Power Options control panel  which is called System unattended sleep timeout and see how it goes.

Hi Flower_Bud,

When was the last time it worked fine?

I've always had this issue not only with this laptop but with others as well.

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

No hardwware changes, only occasionally I install or uninstall softwares

Have you tried updating the BIOS?

I have updated the BIOS a couple of weeks ago to ''F.17 Rev.A - HP Firmware Pack (Intel Processors) Jul 27, 2018. But the laptop keeps going back to sleep by itself everytime I put it to sleep.

I think the latest BIOS update seem to have fixed the first issue I had with this omen laptop which was system lagging https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/OMEN-by-HP-15-system-lagging/m-...

Thanks a lot David, that has fixed it! You are a star! I have been looking to find a fix for this issue for about 2 years now, maybe I was searching using the wrong wording, so thanks for finding this link.

If anyone else having the same issue, there is a hidden setting in the Power Options called ''System unattended sleep timeout'' by defult it is set to 2 minutes, and the only fix for is to open the Registry Editor, by either going on to find and type ''regedit'' or open the Run command and type regedit and, change the value of the "Attributes" key from 1 to 0 (Not to 2 as it was suggested in superuser.com) in the following location:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\238C9FA8-0AAD-41ED-83F4-97BE242C8F20\7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0]

I had to manually find this entry, control + F to Find doesn't seem to find it.

After making the above registry tweak open the Power Options control panel and there should now be a System unattended sleep timeout setting under Sleep and change the minutes to zero.
