  • My laptop 15-ay041wm is stuck in a boot loop after resetting windows 10. I tried accessing recovery manager but received error messages for recovery options. It will not allow me to reset windows and the start up repair process does not work. I cannot boot into safe mode. The laptop restarts after I try to customize my settings. I do not have access to another computer to create a windows inatallation file. I tested the hard drive and memory and the problem does not appear to be hardware related.

Hi @GoogleyMoogley,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Hard Reset:

  • Turn off your computer.
  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, external hard drives).
  • Unplug the AC adapter.
  • If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug in the AC adapter.
  • Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Access HP Recovery Manager:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly until you see the HP Recovery Manager screen.
  • If prompted to back up your files, select "Back up your files first (recommended)" and then click "Next." Otherwise, select "Recover without backing up your files" and click "Next."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to perform a system recovery.

Using Recovery Media:

  • If you have created recovery media (USB or DVDs) before, use it to boot from.
  • Insert the recovery media.
  • Turn off the computer, then turn it on and press Esc key to see the startup menu. Use the arrow keys to select the boot menu and press Enter.
  • Choose the media you inserted (USB or DVD) and press Enter to boot from that device.
  • Follow the prompts to perform a system recovery using the recovery media.

Reset BIOS to Default Settings:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Turn it on and repeatedly press F10 to enter BIOS setup.
  • Use the arrow keys to navigate to the "Main" tab, then select "Restore defaults."
  • Press Enter to confirm and then "Save Changes and Exit."

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your help. I followed your suggestions. I drained residual power and Pressed f11 to access recovery manager. I was able to backup my files but the main problem is the system recovery option is not available. The box for system recovery is gray with (help!) above and I cannot click on this feature.

I completed the check disk for Windows Partition but am unable to launch check disk for Recovery Partition.

I have tried every option in troubleshooting. When resetting I receive a message that there was a problem resetting my pc and no changes were made. System Restore will not work because it says no point is created. Same for system image: no image created. Startup repair could not repair my pc and I received an error message when trying to go back to the previous build.

I followed your additional instructions by pressing f10 and resetting default settings on all tabs of the bios menu. Nothing seemed to help and I am still stuck in a boot loop.

As mentioned, I do not have another computer to create a recovery file. Are there any ways to reset my pc or initiate startup recovery? I do not understand why I am unable to select the option to restore to factory condition using System Recovery. When I click that option nothing happens because it is grayed out. If I could restore to factory condition it would solve the problem.

I can see that there are multiple partitions and unauthorized user accounts that I did not create. Is there any way to investigate the security problem? What are my options and how can I get a fresh installation of windows or at least reset my pc?
