I get a caps lock error code 5.3 which apparently means the controller waited too long for bios to respond, this code runs on every occurance of the crash. I do update the bios when new updates become available and have only done this in the past 9 months or so, this could be the source of the problem (a dodgy bios update) but I cannot confirm and can't seem to roll back the bios either.
I'm usually pretty good with tech but this has me stumped as I only have the flash code with no other info.
Any suggestion/help would be appreciated! 🙂

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community.
I reviewed the case regarding issues with the computer crashes randomly. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 😉
In this case, I would recommend you to re-start the notebook, and keep tapping F2, and run a full system test, to make sure it is not hardware related.
This should do the trick for you. Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue.
The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. 😉
