Recently, I've been having issues with the device powering on and powering off when it's not supposed to. The power button doesnt work unless the laptop is off and I close the lid, and if I close the lid, the laptop shuts itself off no matter what I change in settings. Let me know if this isnt the proper board for my issue.

Hi @Alpine76,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 14s laptop turns off when you close it and the power button isn't functioning properly, there could be a few potential causes for these issues. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to identify and possibly resolve the problems:
Power Button Issue:
- Check if there's any physical damage or debris around the power button. If there's dirt or dust, gently clean it.
- Press the power button firmly and ensure you're pressing it in the right way. Sometimes, a slightly off-center press might not register.
- If the power button is stuck or unresponsive, you may need to get it repaired by a professional technician.
Laptop Turning Off When Closed:
- Check the power settings in your laptop's control panel. It's possible that your laptop is configured to shut down when the lid is closed. You can change this setting to sleep or hibernate instead of shutting down.
- On Windows, go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what closing the lid does, and adjust the settings to your preference.
- On macOS, go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Energy Saver, and customize the behavior for "When the display is asleep."
Power Management Settings:
- Ensure that your laptop's power management settings are configured correctly. Sometimes, power-saving features can cause unexpected shutdowns or other issues.
- On Windows, go to Control Panel > Power Options and choose a balanced power plan or customize the settings according to your needs.
- On macOS, adjust the energy-saving options in System Preferences > Energy Saver.
Battery Issues:
- Check if your laptop's battery is functioning properly. If the battery is faulty or not holding a charge, it might lead to sudden shutdowns.
- On Windows, you can check the battery health by right-clicking on the battery icon in the taskbar and selecting "Battery Health."
- On macOS, hold the Option key and click on the battery icon in the menu bar to reveal battery status and health.
Software or Driver Problems:
- Ensure that your laptop's operating system and drivers are up-to-date. Outdated software or drivers can cause various issues.
- Windows: Use Windows Update to check for updates.
- macOS: Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

These are all options I have already tested and considered before opening the post. My battery health is at 100%, my software is up to date, my laptop has been set to suspend if the lid is closed and the power button only works after I close the lid and that only works to turn the machine on
