I purchased an OMEN 16 Gaming Laptop 16-wf1001na - NVID in September 2024. It has all the up to date drivers and Bitdefender runs regular checks and no virus issues. However, the laptop now will not power on even when the power cable is plugged in. I have managed to do a hard restart and ran a battery report which shows that the battery capacity fell from virtually full to nothing from one day to the next. I don't know what could cause this and how to fix it. Please help.

Hi @Omen_Owner123,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how alarming it is when your OMEN suddenly won’t power on, and the battery reports drop from full to zero overnight. Here’s what HP officially recommends to help resolve this:

1. Perform a Complete Power Drain (Hard Reset)

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove any external devices.
  2. If your model supports it, remove the battery.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to drain residual power.
  4. Reinstall the battery, plug in the AC adapter, and power on the laptop.

📌 If it powers on, the issue may have been residual charge buildup.

2. Test the Power Adapter & Charging Port

  • Remove the battery (if possible) and try powering on with only the AC adapter connected.
  • If it still won’t power up, test the adapter with another HP laptop. If it doesn’t work there, the adapter may be faulty.

3. Check the Battery Health

The overnight drop suggests the battery may be failing or entering protection mode.

  • Generate a battery report:
    powercfg /batteryreport in PowerShell
  • Review the battery’s full charge capacity vs design capacity.
  • Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI):
    1. Power off → press Esc repeatedly → then press F2.
    2. Navigate to Battery Test.
If this indicates any fault, the battery likely needs replacement.

4. Check BIOS Recovery Steps

  • Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in
  • Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.
  • Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.

5. Remove All Peripherals & Test Minimal Boot

  • Disconnect all peripherals (external drives, USB devices, docking stations).
  • Remove any additional RAM or storage modules if accessible, test boot with only essential components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
