HELP! Laptop will not start

Hi,

Please share a few more details so we can guide you correctly:

  • Exact HP laptop model
  • Does the power LED turn on?
  • Do you hear the fan?
  • Is the screen completely black?
  • Does the charger LED turn on?
  • Did this happen after an update, drop, liquid spill, or battery issue?

In the meantime, try a basic power reset:

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter.
  2. Disconnect all USB devices and accessories.
  3. If the battery is removable, remove it.
  4. Hold the power button for about 15–20 seconds.
  5. Reconnect only the AC adapter.
  6. Try turning the laptop on again.

If the laptop powers on but Windows does not load, tap Esc repeatedly at startup, then press F2 to run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

If there is no light, no fan, and no response at all, test with another known-good original HP charger if possible. If it still shows no signs of power, it may need hardware inspection.
