I'm getting so frustrated trying to just send this laptop in for OOW repair. About 6 months after it's warranty expired it dies, won't boot. I've tried everything I can think of and from online searching. I'm an IT guy and I know that might not mean much but I have been doing this kind of work since the early 90's. Best Buy say's all they can do is wipe and reload so I let them (I already tried in vain). They couldn't get it to wipe and reload either. It won't even boot on SD card. It passes all tests in the bios menu, which they've run and I have run too. When I picked it up I thought, no big deal, it definitely has a hardware issue. I'll just send it off to HP for repair. I'll not trust the Best Buy kids who can only wipe and reload to mail it off to their "Service Center". The kid even admitted they might not be able to figure it out there either. So it seems nearly impossible to send this laptop off to HP for repair because it's OOW. If I cannot send this off for repair I'll have no more business with HP ever. Only reason I got into HP laptops is because I liked Compaq back in the day. So how do I send this off for OOW repair?

Hi @BrandonWires,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY 17.3 Inch laptop won't boot, there could be various reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem.
Check the Power Supply:
- Ensure that your laptop is properly connected to a power source and that the power adapter is functioning correctly. Sometimes, a drained battery can prevent a laptop from booting.
External Devices:
- Disconnect all external devices (such as USB drives, external hard drives, and peripherals) from the laptop. Sometimes, a faulty external device can cause boot issues.
Hard Reset:
- If the laptop is unresponsive, perform a hard reset by turning it off, unplugging it from the power source, and removing the battery (if possible). Then, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. After that, reconnect the power source and try turning it on.
Screen Check:
- Make sure that the screen is functioning. If you can hear the laptop running but the screen remains black, it could be a display issue.
Check for Error Messages:
- Look for any error messages or diagnostic information that may appear on the screen when attempting to boot. This can provide clues about what's causing the problem.
Boot in Safe Mode:
- Try booting the laptop in Safe Mode by repeatedly pressing the F8 key during startup. Safe Mode loads a minimal set of drivers and can help identify software-related issues.
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Access the laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually Del, F2, or Esc). Check if the boot order is correct, and ensure that the hard drive or SSD is recognized. Make sure secure boot is disabled if you're trying to boot from external media.
Run Built-in Diagnostics:
- Many HP laptops have built-in diagnostics tools that can help identify hardware issues. Access these tools by pressing a specific key (often F2 or F12) during startup.
Boot from a Recovery or Installation Media:
- If you have a bootable USB drive or recovery disk, you can try booting from it to repair the operating system or recover data.
Check for Hardware Issues:
- If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware problem. This could be a malfunctioning hard drive, RAM, or other components.
Restore or Reinstall the Operating System:
- As a last resort, you may need to reinstall the operating system. This should be done after ensuring you have backed up important data.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
