Pavilion dv7-6135dx
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello, I've had this HP Pavilion for roughly 3 or so years now. Had no hardware problems with it since. I bought it new. Recently, It won't boot. When I hit the power button the lights on the keyboard show up for about 3 -5 seconds then it powers off. The screen doens't do anything. I will admit that the battery was dead but I let it full charge before doing this. I've tried letting it sit for a day, removing RAM Dimms, HDDs, and the Battery, still nothing. I tried running it without the battery, same issue. I am completely out of options. I can only think that it is a board issure.

I did all the steps I could. The LED indicator only blinks once. The lights only go on for about 5 seconds then turns off. The screen is black the entire time. Hard resetting didn't work. I tried antoher HDD, still nothing. I swap RAM Dims, but no luck.

Then try this one.. Bios key combination

Many HP notebook computers have an emergency BIOS recovery feature that allows you to recover and install the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive, as long as the hard drive remains functional. This emergency recovery feature is separate from the BIOS and is designed to work in the event of a catastrophic BIOS failure.

NOTE: If the hard disk partition is deleted or inaccessible, follow the steps in the HP support document: Recovering the notebook BIOS using an external storage device

Follow these steps to recover an earlier version of the BIOS on your notebook:

1.            Turn off the computer.

2.            Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.

3.            Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time while the computer is off.

4.            Still pressing the Windows and B keys, press and hold down the Power button on the notebook for 1 second, and then release the Power button and the keys.

The Power LED light remains on, and the screen remains blank for 30 to 60 seconds. You might hear beeping sounds. Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen displays and the BIOS updates automatically.

If the HP BIOS Update screen displays, continue to step 5.
If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, find your condition from the following options and then follow the steps for that condition:

•              Computer boots into Windows
If your computer is able to boot into Windows, update the BIOS to the latest version using the standard BIOS update procedure as per the HP support document: Updating the BIOS (Notebooks)
•              Power LED light turns off
The computer turns off if you press and hold the power button too long. Repeat steps 1 through 4 above, this time press and hold the power button down for between one to three seconds in step 4.
•              After repeated attempts, the HP BIOS Update screen does not open
Your computer does not support this function or it has a hardware problem that is preventing the tool from opening. Contact HP Support for further assistance.

5.            After the BIOS is recovered, a Continue Startup button displays and a timer counts down. Click the Continue Startup button to restart the computer immediately. The computer restarts automatically when the timer reaches zero.

6.            When the computer restarts, a message similar to the following displays: A system BIOS Recovery has occurred. BIOS Recovery (500) Enter – Continue.

Press the Enter key to continue immediately or to allow the computer to reboot automatically.

NOTE: After restoring the BIOS, if the computer repeatedly displays a message that the BIOS has been recovered, perform the steps in the HP support document: HP BIOS Application Selected Is Corrupt or Missing.

7.            After restarting, Windows might display a message stating that the computer was improperly shut down or that a boot problem was detected. Read and respond to the screens to continue

I've tried these steps multiple times and ways. No matter what I do I get the same result. It powers on, the LEDs on the keyboard. They go on and off a couple times then it stops.  The screen is always black. The fan does turn on from my knowledge as well.

I've ran out of ideas on how to fix this. How much would it cost to send this into HP to get this fixed. I do not have warranty on it.

Update 1/15/17: Still have the same issue. Something I did note that the Caps lock blinks two times before it powers off. The screen doesn't turn on and there are no beeps. I can make a video if anyone wants to see what I'm seeing. If no one knows how to fix this, I guess I could just buy a new laptop.

Hi,

Im so sorry ive been away for a very long time. Youve mentioned about having a black screen and blinking capslock? Kindly run a diagnostic test via start menu.

Turn the computer off completely

Turn it back on and immediately tap ESC to access Start Menu

Press F2 for diagnostics

run a component test>Hard drive test>quick test>run once

check if you are going to get a failure id.

If theres a failure id that means you need to replace the drive if not then give us a heads up.

Regards

OK, so I've tried this in a couple ways but was not successful. I've tapped ESC once then F2, Rapidly tap ESC then F2, and held ESC and then F2. The computer isn't on enough to do a test.

The laptop does the same process. It turns on. Screen has no activity. The lights turn on and the caps locks light flashes two times. Then the computer shuts off. (This is a 6 second time frame) There have been some cases were after the lights turn off, all the keyboard lights flicker on and off and shutdown again.

I will not give up hope on this computer.
