When I lower the fan speed of the laptop, it starts heating which causes the screen to start flickering for some reason and at some point it would completely stop the screen although it would still work on a second screen connected through HDMI cable.

Yesterday, I decided to Shut Down the laptop and today, it won't start at all after pressing the power button a few times.

Hi @naivedya,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact model of your HP laptop.
  • Whether you notice any lights (power LED, charging indicator) when pressing the power button.
  • If you hear any fan noise or hard drive activity when attempting to power it on.

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Perform a Hard Reset
    • Disconnect the power adapter.
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15–20 seconds to discharge residual power.
    • Reconnect the  adapter, then try powering on again.
  2. Check the Power Adapter and Battery
    • Ensure the adapter is firmly connected and the power outlet is working.
    • If possible, test with another compatible HP adapter.
  3. Inspect for Signs of Power
    • Look for any LED indicators (charging light, caps lock light, etc.).
    • If lights blink in a pattern, note it down it can help us identify hardware issues.
  4. External Display Test
  • Since you mentioned the laptop previously worked with an HDMI monitor, try connecting it again to see if there’s any output now.

I hope this helps.

I totally forgot to mention Laptop Info somehow.

  • Laptop - Victus 16 Gaming laptop 16.1 inch. 16 GB Ram, 1TB SSD 2024 manufacture.
  • Since I shut down the laptop, the power button is not working at all. It was working the day before. During the screen flickering issue, the Power LED light would also flicker along with the screen and it would instantly take me to the lock screen/Sign in window. Also, the charging LED is working fine.
  • Since the laptop is NOT turning ON, I do not hear any fan noise or anything else. Absolutely nothing.

For the troubleshoot options you gave me

  • The laptop is not starting even when I try to hard reset or anything else.
  • Power is connected properly and chating is working since LED for charging indicator is ON while charging.
  • The power light does blink in a pattern. When the screen flickers, the Power LED flickers with the screen and if there is a brief moment where the laptop works,  I am redirected to the sign in page, always.
  • When connected to the HDMI, the laptop screen will not open at all and the screen display is considered as the only connect display.

Thanks for the suggestion,

Naivedya.
