HP Pro book 4710s

My old ProBook 4710s suddenly doesn't turn on. When I plug in the AC adapter, the battery led blinks in turquoise. I checked the HP user manual, but there is no "turquoise blink" mode explained. Could it be an AC adapter issue? I checked the voltage outputted by the AC adapter and it seems to be 15V rather than the 19V it should output.

Thanks in advance.

Hello N_N1,

Thank you for posting your concern,

Diagnosing Your HP ProBook 4710s Power Issue

If your HP ProBook 4710s is not turning on and the battery LED blinks in an unexpected turquoise color, it could indeed indicate a power issue, possibly related to your AC adapter based on your observations. Here are some steps you can take to further diagnose and address the situation:

  1. Check the AC Adapter:

    • The fact that the AC adapter is only outputting 15V instead of the expected 19V suggests that it may be faulty or unable to provide sufficient power. This could cause the battery to not charge properly and prevent the laptop from turning on.
  2. Try a Different AC Adapter:

    • If possible, use another compatible AC adapter to see if it resolves the issue. Make sure it is a genuine HP adapter or an equivalent replacement that provides the correct voltage and amperage.
  3. Inspect the Power Connections:

    • Check if the power jack on the laptop is loose or damaged. Sometimes the connection can become worn or broken, which might lead to an improper power supply.
  4. Perform a Hard Reset:

    • Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery.
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
    • Reconnect the AC adapter (do not insert the battery at this point) and try powering on the laptop.
  5. Verify the Battery Health:

    • If the laptop powers on without the battery, there might be an issue with the battery itself that is preventing it from charging or supplying power properly.
  6. Consult with HP Support:

    • If these steps do not resolve the issue, it's a good idea to contact HP support for potential service options, especially if hardware replacement is necessary.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify whether the issue lies with the AC adapter or another component of your laptop's power system.
