I am trying to repair my daughter's laptop. The laptop, model 15-cs1063cl, has a dead battery (now on order) and will not power on at all. I swapped power cords from my own working laptop and could not get the laptop powered on at all. I am guessing that it could be a CMOS problem, but the CMOS/BIOS may be integrated into something other than a circular battery.

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for the 15-cs model series.
Maintenance and Service Guide HP Pavilion 15 Laptop PC
That model series does not come with a RTC (Real Time Clock) (CMOS) battery.
The main battery provides power to the BIOS chip to maintain the RTC/BIOS settings.
I'm kind of surprised the notebook does not power on with a dead battery.
I don't know if you want to try removing the internal battery, or disconnecting the battery cable, and see if the notebook powers on that way. Just make sure the battery cable doesn't touch the motherboard or any metal inside the notebook.

Paul, thanks so much, and I think I ordered the wrong battery, one that works with my personal HP laptop, 15-cs1XXX. I downloaded the manuals, and so can identify the correct part number to order.

You're very welcome, Greg.
The parts list for your notebook would also have the battery part number used in it.

I checked the HP parts store, and they don't sell the battery, so you will have to find it from a 3rd party reseller or on eBay.
