I sold my HP Spectra to a company and they said it was locked out and needed a BIOS password. Well I never set a BIOS password and it was working fine when I shipped it to them. I don’t know what they done but then they tried to lowball me a figure because they said the BIOS password is not recoverable or able to be reset unless I knew the original password. Of course I had no idea because I never had any trouble with it at all. It’s it pristine condition with all original parts and packaging. There was no way I was going to accept $165 dollars for it for them to use for parts. I told them to google how to reset it because I looked it up before responding back to them and found several ways to do it They said it wasn’t possible so I told them to package it back up and send it back to me. I haven’t received it back yet but I’m wanting to make sure I do this right when it gets back to me. The model number is [Personal Information Removed]. Can anybody confirm the right way to reset it when I receive it back?

- Im asking because a simple google search showed me at least 4 different ways to do it without much of a hassle
- so are you basically telling me that I should just purchase a new laptop and sell the Spectra off for parts

What they are telling you is basically correct -- as there is no way that YOU can reset a BIOS password.
BIOS passwords are encoded into the firmware of the motherboard and we have no access of any kind to that. Changing such a password requires completely replacing the motherboard with a new one that does NOT have a password encoded into the firmware -- and that usually costs a LOT more than simply replacing the computer.
I wish we could help you -- but we can't, since we have no way from here to verify ownership of any computer.
