A few weeks ago, my laptop started shutting down. It would happen shortly after starting up. It would suddenly give a quick message that the computer was locking down, then the screen would go black, and in a few seconds I could see the power light go off. Once I turned the computer back on, it gave a message about the battery. The laptop is not quite two years old.
I ran some HP diagnostics. A couple results said that the battery wasn't holding power, but then I ran it twice more and it said the battery was normal. I tried running HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, but got the following error message
We couldn't create the data directory
Microsoft Edge can't read or write to its data directory
C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\HPDIAGS\EBWebView
I also tried running HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) as directed by HP Support page. The directions said to press the F2 key about once every second upon turning on the computer. That was supposed to display the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) screen. But that didn't work -- the screen displayed a lot of other options, but not the UEFI screen, so I backed out of that.
I've been using the laptop for about 20-25 minutes now and the battery is at around 80% charge and hasn't locked down. The locking down is sporadic and I never know when it's going to happen. Any suggestions?? Thanks
