HP 2000-299WM Notebook PC

Serial #: [text omitted to protect user privacy] has original bios from 2011.

Need BIOS update file. Reinstalled Windows 10, 64 Bit Home Edition, would not boot, but all other files are seemingly intact. Running fine with the new battery, new memory on order to upgrade from factory 3GB to 8GB Max.

I would like to update the BIOS to see if there is an option to disable the fan check on POST. I'm getting a fan error 90B, the fan is working great, actually one of the coolest laptops I've ever worked on. I took it apart and cleaned the fan. I would LOVE to be able to bypass the error, if you miss your chance to hit enter the notebook will shutdown. Looked at all the current BIOS options and don't see anything that would disable the fan check. From what I can tell, this is a know issue. Updating the BIOS from 2011 even to 2013 might be a big help. This system shipped with Windows 7, but runs 10 okay.

I really don't want to trust a 3rd party BIOS download and possibly brick an otherwise useable system.

If I have to, I'll leave it as is, but would like to upgrade the BIOS if possible.

Thanks,

Kris...

Hi, Kris;

I can give you the BIOS update, but the release notes indicate that it was designed to be run using W7 or W8, so I don't know what will happen if you run the update on W10.  It may work fine, or it may wreck your notebook.

The latest one I could find is F.39 with a release date of 13 Dec 2013.
