I use a 2TB SD-card for extra storage while booting from the SSD. I have no intention of booting from the SD-card.

Whenever my computer starts and enters the BIOS (regardless if i want to boot to OS or enter BIOS settings) it hangs, and the caps-lock key starts to blink until i remove the SD-card. I can then re-insert it again after I've entered the bootloader and it works fine until i power off and have to do it again. I'd prefer not to do this to avoid mechanical damage in the SD/MMC-card slot. I'd have to do this every time I'd turn my computer on.

I suspect that maybe BIOS is looking through the SD-card to see if it's bootable or something, which takes forever since it's 2TB (maybe).

Is there any way to make the BIOS ignore the SD-card, without disabling the SD-card slot entirely? I've disabled "Boot from SD-card" in BIOS settings boot menu and also put the SD-card at the very end in the boot order, to no avail. EFI-boot is also disabled.

Alternatively, are there any partition flags i can enable to make the BIOS ignore the card?

if it's a mech hard drive is there a pause/delay boot option for hard drives in the bios?
