HP 14-dq0000 Laptop PC (56Z60AV)

Hello, On boot i am getting the error "Manufacture Programming Mode is in Unlock" on boot every time.  I would like this to go away.  Nothing has been done to this computer that would make it do that.  It seems like it is a mode that is used by HP to do some computer pre-programming and it's supposed to be turned off upon being shipped.  I have tried several fixes I have found online, but none have worked.  I need to get this fixed, but I'm not paying HP for a problem that is theirs.  I would like to know what I need to do to get this error to go away.  It was not doing this for the last year we have owned it, but now all of a sudden it's doing it with no changes to the computer other than the standard updates for windows.  This seems like  it's a BIOS or UEFI issue rather than operating system.  It happens on boot before windows starts to load.  I have updated the bios and attempted to use the BIOS Utility tool with a command prompt to fix this, but even putting this mode into "lock" with the BIOS Utility tool, and the tool confirming that it set this parameter, it is still doing it.  Please help.

Hi @kaminskiclan,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Access the BIOS Settings:

  • Restart the computer and enter the BIOS setup. This is generally done by pressing a specific key like F10, F2, F12, Del, or Esc during the boot process. The specific key sometimes varies by model, but often F10 for HP systems.

Locate the Manufacturing Mode Option:

  • Once in the BIOS setup, look for any settings related to "Manufacture Programming Mode," "Manufacturing Settings," or "Factory Mode".
  • This might be listed under system configuration or a similar tab.

Disable the Manufacturing Mode:

  • Change the setting from "Unlock" to "Lock" or toggle off the option that references manufacturing mode.
  • Save the changes and exit the BIOS. This is usually done by pressing F10 and confirming the save options.

Reset BIOS to Default Settings:

  • If you cannot find the specific option or it does not exist, you can reset the BIOS settings to default. This action can often resolve unintended configurations:
    • Look for options such as "Load Setup Defaults" or "Reset to Default" within the BIOS setup and apply them. Save changes and exit.

Update BIOS Firmware:

  • If the option is not available or changes won’t take effect, consider updating the BIOS to ensure all settings are properly refreshed.
  • Download the latest BIOS update from the HP Support website using your specific model number and follow the instructions to update.

I hope this helps.

Hello, I attempted all of your options.  I could not find any of those modes in any of the settings pages.  I even dived down into all of the lower menus and didn't find it.  I also reloaded the BIOS with the latest firmware from your site.  I then reset all settings to default and it still didn't work.

I also tried one more thing I found on the web,:

PowerADM.com / Windows / Removing ‘Manufacture Programming Mode is in Unlock’ on HP Laptop

After replacing the motherboard or updating BIOS firmware (flashing) on HP laptops using the HP BIOS Configuration Utility, a message may appear each time the computer boots after the POST stage:

Manufacture Programming Mode is in Unlock Mode

System is booting in manufacturing program mode

or

Manufacturing programming mode is set to unlocked

The user must press the function key on the keyboard to continue booting the operating system. Without it, the operating system will not boot.

Manufacturing Mode is a special BIOS mode on HP and Dell machines used by manufacturers to quickly upload/update firmware. For devices to be shipped to consumers, the production mode is set to Lock. Therefore, if you have flashed the BIOS or replaced the motherboard, this could reset the manufacturing mode back to unlocked mode.

Let’s look at how to disable manufacturing mode on HP devices using the HP BIOS Configuration Utility (BCU).

The latest HP BIOS Configuration Utility for Windows is available for download from this link: https://ftp.ext.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HP_BCU.html

The current release of BCU is 4.0.33.1 for Windows 11, 10, 8.1, and 7 (XP not supported) from 12.08.2022 (sp143621.exe).

The BCU utility is used to deploy standard configuration files with HP BIOS settings to computers in a corporate environment. The BCU uses a separate HP WMI class (root\HP\InstrumentedBIOS namespace) for flashing BIOS settings.

Download, run, and extract sp143621.exe to a local directory the default directory is C:\SWSetup\SP143621).

To remove this annoying message from your HP device, follow these steps:

  1. Open a command prompt as Administrator and change to the directory where you extracted the BCU files. In our example, this is C:\SWSetup\SP143621 (Previous versions of BCU were installed by default to the “C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS Configuration Utility”)
    cd c:\SWSetup\SP143621
  2. I will use BiosConfigUtility64.exe to configure the BIOS because my computer is running Windows 10 x64;
  3. To get the current HP BIOS configuration and export it to a text file, run the command:
    BiosConfigUtility64.exe/getconfig:config.txt

    A message should appear:
    SUCCESS msg='No errors occurred'

  4. Don’t close the CMD prompt window;
  5. Open the config.txt file with Notepad:
    notepad.exe config.txt
  6. Replace the strings:
    Manufacturing Programming Mode
        *Unlock
         Lock

    with

    Manufacturing Programming Mode
        Unlock
        *Lock

  7. Save the file and apply the changes to the BIOS:
    BiosConfigUtility64.exe/setconfig:config.txt

A message will appear in the console that the value of the Manufacturing Programming Mode parameter will be changed from Unlock (OLDVALUE) to Lock (NEWVALUE).

This also didn't work.  Please advise.

You will need to restart your HP device for the new settings to take effect.

Production programming mode unlock no longer appears on the HP laptop screen when booting.

I am still having an issue with this and it has nothing to do with what I did to the computer.  It's something that reset to a manufacturer setting on it's own.  I need to get some help and it should not cost me money.  In the private message, the solution is give money.  I'm not happy with that option.  I have had multiple other computers from multiple other vendors and no one has had me pay for support for an issue that I did not cause.  Please help.
