Apologies to ZenohD for off-topic post. I have been trying for days to post a laptop boot query but only get the "you do not have sufficient privileges" message, so I am wondering whether it might let me respond to an existing post. Could the community overlords please tell us how to get round that?
Hello,
i am hoping that someone will have come across this and know the solution.
HP Envy17 (1190ea model), win10, single ssd in place of original hdd. Battery was on it's last legs but the system was working with the charger connected. I closed the lid with it powered on (not something I have done recently) and on opening it (charger still connected) I can not get it to wake. I have read through several suggestions for HP laptop sleep recovery but nothing peculiar to this model.
It appears that I can force it "off" by holding the power key down.
I have tried the extended power key press with both battery and charger disconnected, i have kept the key pressed for up to 60 seconds.
If i reconnect the power and press the power button there is an initial flash of the power indicator led, which stays on for a split second whilst both the disk access and keyboard backlight flash very briefly and then all extinguish at the same time. These flashes are very brief and repeat every four seconds. The cooling fan does not turn on and screen remains blank (as per normal just starting boot).
I have now obtained a replacement battery (which is charged) and have also replaced rtc battery. I have repeated the previous procedure of holding down the power key (for as much as a minute) with battery and charger connected or not and each time when it has power available it just goes in to that short flash with the four second repetition.
I have also tried with the disk removed (in the hope that the "restore from sleep" flag might be on the drive) but no difference observed.
How can I force it to do a standard boot?
Does the HP firmware first look to the disk for a "restore from sleep" image? If so I have a drive caddy for the ssd and could edit or delete files.
Thank you
