Hello,
before anyone tries to tell me to unplug everything for 5 minutes and plug in only the charger and hold down the power signal. I have.
My laptop in an HP Elitebook 8440p running on Windows 10
Whenever I try to turn my HP on it shows the HP signal with the note to press the esc key for the startup menu.
If I don't press the esc key my laptop contnues to a black screen with a white blinking cursor, and stays there for however long I decide to leave the laptop on. I then press Ctr, Alt, and Del to restart the startup process.
I have tried the startup test, it failed and read "Test 1 (Quick) .... Error: Read failureError: Read Failure"
I have tried the run-in test, it failed and read "Test 1 (Quick) .... Error: Read failureError: Read Failure"
I have tried the hard disk test, it failed and read "Test 1 (Quick) .... Error: Read failureError: Read Failure"
What do I do now?

Replace hard drive with a new one of similar form factor.
2.5 inch SATA 9.5mm thick HDD.
Old one has failed.
Manual: Page 4-9, 4-10

Use recovery discs you must have created after first setup of this laptop to factory reset OS after replacement. I don't think HP would be stocking recovery media for your old model still.
