HP 250 G4 Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi. I have had my HP 250 G4 laptop for about six years now. Therefore it's out of warranty.

Over the last two years I have found myself using it less and less. I have tried to use it in the last week because I want to install linux.

However, whenever I press the power button, the laptop does not turn on.

I have tried with the battery in, battery out, charging cable in and out, battery fully charged etc. I have also tried another hp battery. Nothing seems to work.....

BUT every so often, I manage to get the laptop to boot. But I can't figure out what it is that makes it successful. Once it is running, it's great!!

My original theory was that there was an issue with the power button. But on the rare occasion I have got it running, I have pressed the power button multiple times to see if the laptop reacts. Every time, it has. So I don't think it's that.

I can't figure out what it is that means it only boots one in every 30 attempts.

In terms of lights/LEDs, the light that confirms the battery is charged/charging works fine. I've also noticed that when I try to turn the laptop on, the light that indicates it's powered on, lights up briefly for a moment before turning off.

I can't figure it out......
