The laptop is an HP Envy x360 160ac0023dx. Both power LEDs will turn on, but nothing else happens. This happened after I disconnected the battery for maintenance.
The laptop was fully working before I did this.
I've already tried:
AC-power only trick (remove battery, hold power button, then try turning it on). This didn't help.
Remove the SSD to reduce motherboard stress (spoiler alert: this didn't help either).
Extended AC-only power trick (remove battery, hold power button for 20-30s, then try turning it on). This didn't help either.
I'm starting to think I bricked the motherboard. The laptop is also out of warranty - I cannot RMA it.
Should I just remove my SSD and tell my dad I need a new one? I'm out of ideas.

Hi @Justin316,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
I am sorry to hear that your HP Envy x360 160ac0023dx laptop is not booting after you disconnected the battery for maintenance, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:
BIOS Recovery Mode
- HP laptops have a BIOS recovery feature. Hold Windows + B while pressing the power button. Keep holding until you hear beeps or see the BIOS recovery screen.
- Check Battery and AC Adapter:
- Ensure that the power adapter is correctly connected to your laptop and a working power outlet.
- If available, try using another compatible adapter to test if the adapter is faulty.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Power off the laptop and disconnect any peripherals.
- Remove the battery only if it is detachable. Leave the AC adapter connected.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Retry powering on the laptop.
Check for Beep Codes or Blinking LEDs:
- Note any beep sounds or blinking LED patterns when you try to power on the device. This can indicate a specific hardware failure.
Reseat Internal Components:
- Since you previously disconnected the battery, ensure that it and any other components, like RAM or storage drives, are securely connected.
Check the Display:
- Press the F8 key repeatedly during startup to check if the display has failed but the laptop is still working.
- Try connecting your laptop to an external monitor to check if there is a display output.
Perform a CMOS Reset
- Disconnect both the main battery and the CMOS battery.
- Hold the power button for 30–60 seconds.
- Reconnect the CMOS battery first, then the main battery, then try AC-only boot.
- This often clears “no boot” states caused by BIOS corruption.
Take care and have an amazing day!
