Hey HP community,
I want to install Linux on my system with a physical USB flash drive but my laptop is having trouble detecting the USB drive. The UEFI BIOS is InsydeH20, it was running F.27 and then upgraded to F.28 thinking it was a BIOS software issue but NO. I have also uninstalled the USB drivers and installed them back but no progress. Yes, I have secure boot disabled and have tried with legacy support ON and OFF. Log in into the HP Hardware UEFI setting to run a USB Port Test and get a FAILURE ID: 9U1KV3-70HBPX-MFPWWK-8D2K03, I don't know if this has anything to do with it but my laptop after accessing the desktop it has no problem reading my USB stick with Linux ISO and my mouse USB drive.

Hi @Cybertrusttech,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Pavilion 17-e019dx is not detecting your USB flash drive when you're trying to install Linux, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the problem.
Check the USB Drive: First, make sure that the USB flash drive is working correctly. Test it on another computer to ensure it's not a problem with the drive itself.
USB Port: Try using a different USB port on your HP Pavilion. Sometimes, certain USB ports may not function properly.
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a key like F2, F12, or Delete during boot).
- Look for settings related to USB devices or boot order. Ensure that USB boot support is enabled.
- Set the USB drive as the first boot device in the boot order.
Format the USB Drive: If you have not already done so, format the USB drive to FAT32 or NTFS. Make sure you have properly created a bootable Linux USB drive using a tool like Rufus (for Windows) or dd (for Linux).
Secure Boot: If your computer has UEFI with Secure Boot, it may prevent booting from unsigned or untrusted USB devices. In the BIOS/UEFI settings, disable Secure Boot or enable "Legacy Boot" if available.
Compatibility Mode: Some Linux distributions offer a compatibility mode or an option to boot with certain kernel parameters. Try booting with different options if available.
Check the Linux Distro: Ensure that you downloaded the correct Linux distribution for your computer architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) and created the bootable USB drive with the appropriate version.
USB Drive Size: Make sure the USB drive is large enough to accommodate the Linux installation files. Some distributions may require larger USB drives.
Check for Hardware Issues: It's possible that there could be hardware issues with either the USB ports or the USB drive itself. Try another USB drive if possible.
Test with Another OS: If you have another bootable USB drive with a different operating system (e.g., a Windows installer), try booting from it. This can help determine if the issue is specific to the Linux installation or if there's a more general problem with USB booting.
Update BIOS/UEFI: Check if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available for your HP Pavilion on the HP support website. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues.
USB Drive Order: In some cases, the order in which USB drives were connected to the computer can affect detection. Try connecting the USB drive before booting up the computer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
