My Hp envy will not turn on (off). It was in a travel bag for 7 days and not used. When I plugged it in an orange light was on so I plugged in the power cord and after 1/4 of an hour the light changed from orange to white but it would not turn on when I pressed the on/off switch. The light remained white. I tried pressing and holding the start for 20 seconds with and without the power cord. Still a black screen. What do I do Now?

Hi @Janalison,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When an HP Envy x360 laptop does not turn on, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to try and resolve the issue. Here's a detailed guide.
Preliminary Checks
- Check the Power Source: Ensure that the power outlet you are using is working properly. You can try plugging another device into the same outlet to verify this.
- Check the Power Adapter and Cable: Inspect the power adapter and cable for any visible damage. If possible, try using a different compatible power adapter.
Basic Troubleshooting
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
- Release the power button.
- Reconnect the power adapter and try turning on the laptop again.
Check for Loose Connections: If you are comfortable doing so, check the battery and RAM connections by removing the back cover of the laptop. Ensure they are securely connected.
Try a Different Power Adapter: If you have access to another compatible power adapter, try using it to see if the issue is with the adapter.
Advanced Troubleshooting
Reset the Internal Battery: Some HP laptops have a pinhole reset button on the bottom or side. Use a paperclip to press and hold the button for 10-15 seconds, then try turning on the laptop again.
Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery:
- Warning: This step involves opening the laptop, which may void your warranty if it's still under warranty.
- Disconnect the power adapter.
- Remove the back cover.
- Disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard.
- Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery cable and reattach the back cover.
- Connect the power adapter and try turning on the laptop.

Check the Power Button: Sometimes, the power button itself can be faulty. If you are comfortable doing so, you can open the laptop and check if the power button is properly connected to the motherboard.
External Display Test
- Connect to an External Monitor: Connect your laptop to an external monitor using an HDMI cable. This will help determine if the issue is with the laptop's display.
- If the external monitor shows a display, the issue may be with the laptop's screen or display connection.
- If the external monitor also shows no display, the issue is likely with the laptop's internal components.
By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue with your HP Envy x360 not turning on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
