Hello, my PC wich is a Omen 16 its locking randomly can be while i study or while i am playing, it doenst seem to have a pattern, when it locks he just starts flickering the keyboard lights and takes a while for me to unlock it.

I have done "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth" and "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth".

It started randomly with nothing different happening in that day, i have updated all graphic drivers and windows os.

Hi @death0bomb

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining that—having your laptop lock up randomly with flickering keyboard lights sounds incredibly disruptive, especially when you're trying to focus or game.

You've already taken some solid steps with DISM and driver updates, so let’s build on that with a deeper recovery checklist to help stabilize your OMEN 16.

1. Update BIOS, Firmware & Embedded Controller

Outdated system-level software can cause erratic behavior:

  • Visit the OMEN 16 driver page.
  • Download and install the latest:
    • BIOS update
    • System firmware
    • Embedded controller (EC) update
  • Restart your laptop after installation.

🔄 2. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears residual power and resets internal components:

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Disconnect all peripherals and the charger.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect power and boot up.

🧪 3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Let’s rule out hardware faults:

  1. Restart and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  2. Run the Extensive System Test, especially for:
    • Graphics
    • Motherboard
    • Memory

🧠 4. Check for Driver Conflicts

Even updated drivers can clash:

  • Open Device Manager and look for any yellow warning icons.
  • Right-click your GPU(s) and choose Uninstall device, then reinstall using the official drivers from HP or NVIDIA/AMD.

💡 5. Review Sleep & Power Settings

Random lockups can be triggered by aggressive sleep or hibernate settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery > Screen and Sleep.
  • Set all sleep timers to Never temporarily.
  • Disable Fast Startup via:
    • Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings > Uncheck Fast Startup

🔧 6. Check OMEN Gaming Hub Settings

  • Open OMEN Gaming Hub > Performance Control.
  • Switch to Balanced Mode or Quiet Mode to reduce system stress.
  • In Lighting Studio, disable any reactive lighting effects that may be glitching.

Let me know what happens after the BIOS and diagnostics steps, or if you'd like help adjusting power settings. You’re doing the right thing by tackling this head-on—we’ll get your OMEN back to smooth and stable in no time 💪🖥️.
