I have had an HDD for the past few years but it was getting really slow so I decided to buy an m.2 SSD and install it in my motherboard. I went to the boot options in the BIOS to change the order of the drives and placed the SSD first and the HDD second but the PC keeps booting with the HDD instead of the SSD.
I had a previous experience where simply changing the order in the BIOS allowed the computer to boot from the SSD. Why isn’t this the case? Does this mean I have to disconnect the HDD and install windows on the SSD for the PC to make the proper boot?
Thank you in advance.

Hi:
Normally you can't have Windows on the SATA drive if you want to boot from the M.2 SSD.
The Windows boot manager automatically decides which drive to boot from and for whatever reason, it always goes to the SATA drive first.
Temporarily disconnect the SATA drive and the Windows boot manager should switch to the NVMe SSD.
If it works fine with the drive disconnected, hook it back up and hopefully Windows will continue to boot from the SSD.
If it doesn't, you will need to format the SATA drive and completely remove Windows from it or move the SATA data cable to the SATA 1 port and not have it in the SATA 0 port which is the port for the boot SATA drive.
