Hi @arquitron,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Basic Power Check

  • Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. This drains residual power from the system and may help reset the hardware.
  • Reconnect the battery (if removable) and plug in the power adapter.
  • Try turning on the laptop again.

Check for LED Indicators

  • When plugged in, check if the power LED on the adapter or the charging indicator on the laptop lights up. If the adapter’s LED is off or blinking, the adapter might be faulty.
  • If there’s a blinking pattern on the power LED, refer to the user manual to understand what it means (it could indicate an issue like overheating or hardware failure).

Try a Different Power Adapter/Charger

  • If you have access to a compatible HP charger, try using that. Sometimes a malfunctioning charger or faulty power cable may prevent the laptop from powering up.

Check the Display

  • The laptop might actually be booting up, but the display might not be working.
    • Connect an external monitor via HDMI to see if the laptop is outputting a signal.
    • Try adjusting the brightness or use function keys to toggle the display between internal/external screen.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to perform a hard reset, draining any residual power.

Perform a BIOS Recovery

It’s possible that the BIOS got corrupted during the OS update. HP laptops have a built-in BIOS recovery feature:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Press and hold the Windows + B keys, then press and hold the Power button.
  • Keep holding both keys for 10-15 seconds.
  • The system may boot into BIOS recovery mode, and you can follow the on-screen instructions to recover the BIOS.

Test with RAM and Storage

  • Reseat the RAM: If you're comfortable opening the laptop, reseat the RAM modules. Sometimes, loose or poorly seated RAM can prevent a system from starting.
  • Disconnect storage: If you suspect the OS update could have caused the issue, you could disconnect the hard drive/SSD and see if the laptop powers on without it.

Check for Beep Codes or Flashing Lights

  • When you try to turn it on, pay attention to any beeping sounds or flashing lights. These are diagnostic codes that can help pinpoint the issue.
    • Look up the specific error codes in the HP support manual for your model.

Boot into Recovery Mode (if possible)

  • If you get the laptop to turn on, try to boot into recovery mode.
    • Turn the laptop off and turn it back on while pressing the Esc key repeatedly. This should bring up the Startup Menu.
    • From there, try accessing System Recovery and running Startup Repair or System Restore to go back to a previous state before the update.

Resetting the CMOS (BIOS)

Sometimes, the BIOS settings might be preventing the system from booting:

  • If comfortable, open the back panel to locate the CMOS battery.
  • Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnect it to reset the BIOS settings to their default values.
  • Try turning the laptop back on.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
