Ok so my power went out a bit ago and after that my computer will randomly blink from on and running normally to completely black screen and all the lights on the keyboard does the same but the charging indicator stays on. When this happens it sometimes will just not turn on again and so the first few times i solved this by just taking the battery out and putting it back in but i got tired of doing that so now im here

Hi @Aa4171,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about Display issue, don’t worry let me help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Is your computer a laptop or desktop?
  • Do you notice the black screen happening only when it’s on battery power, or also when plugged in?
  • Does the system make any beeping sounds or show error lights when it fails to turn back on?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try in the meantime:

  1. Power Reset
    • Shut down the computer completely.
    • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
    • Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to discharge residual power.
    • Reconnect the battery and charger, then power it back on.
  2. Check the Charger and Battery
    • Ensure the charger is firmly connected and not loose.
    • If possible, test with another compatible charger to rule out power supply issues.
  3. Run Hardware Diagnostics
    • On HP laptops, you can press Esc repeatedly while turning the system on, then select F2 for diagnostics.
    • This will check for hardware issues like battery or display problems.
  4. Update BIOS and Drivers
    • If the system boots normally, visit HP Support Assistant or the HP website to check for updates.
    • Outdated BIOS or graphics drivers can sometimes cause display flickering or black screen issues.

I hope this helps.

Its a laptop, the blinking will happen whether or not its plugged in or not, and when it blinks all lights on the computer (the lights under the keys and the light indicating its on) all go out except for the light showing that its plugged in, it makes no sounds when this happens

Hi @Aa4171,

Thanks for your response and Thank you for sharing those details  it helps narrow down what might be happening. Since the blinking occurs whether you’re on battery or plugged in, and all lights except the charging indicator go out, it suggests the issue could be related to power management or the system board rather than just the battery.

It may point to a deeper hardware problem (like the system board or power circuitry). In that case, I’d recommend contacting Authorized HP service center  for a hands-on check, especially since the problem started after a power outage.

To ensure your device receives the appropriate care, we recommend visiting an authorized HP service center. Our certified technicians can provide a thorough diagnosis and offer the best solutions to address the issue.
