So while I had issues with the Gpu fan I put the laptop in storage till I could afford new fan. Fast forward a year and somehow the laptop was having a boot load loop and crashing repeatedly. I reinstalled windows 11 and that fixed the boot loading loop but now it’s showing that there is no adapter for the DNS server. I’ve looked at it extensively in CMD as I’m locked out of the laptop as it says “The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted”
I got it connected to my wife but that isn’t helping the issue I tried to add an adapter but I’ve never done so myself so it’s proving difficult. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
BIOS is up to date and everything other than the missing adapter is functioning properly it’s just the adapter that’s preventing me from logging into my laptop at all.

Hi @ShadowKing01245,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We completely understand how concerning it feels when your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop, designed for high-speed performance and smooth gameplay, suddenly loses its Wi-Fi capability after a system corruption. This could be a driver or a Hardware issue where the Wi-Fi card might be corrupted.
Please try the steps below and let me know if this helps.
Step 1: BIOS Restore:
1) Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in
2) Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.
3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.
4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.
Step 2: Check Device Manager for a Missing Network Adapter:
- Press Windows + X → Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network Adapters.
- If your Wi-Fi adapter is missing, you might only see Ethernet or Bluetooth listed.
- Sometimes it will show under "Other Devices" with a yellow triangle ⚠️.
Step 3: Manually Install Wi-Fi Driver
Since the system corruption deleted the driver, you’ll need to reinstall it:
Steps:
- Use another device (phone, tablet, or PC) to visit the official HP driver page:
- HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0xxx Drivers
- Enter your laptop's full model number (for example, 15-cx0056wm, 15-cx0140wm, etc.).
- Download the latest Realtek Wireless LAN driver or Intel Wireless LAN driver listed under "Network".
- Transfer the driver file via USB stick to your Pavilion laptop.
- Install the driver and restart the laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I cannot get into the laptop it says “Admin” and whenever I click on login it comes up with “The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted” which makes me unable to get into the laptop. I’ve had to resort to going into cmd and looking for the adapter but it doesn’t appear so it’s possible the Wi-Fi chip was damaged or corrupted somehow.
I have a new WiFi chip coming in soon I’ll post an update whenever it arrives and if it works to solve the issue or not.

It’s a personal laptop I used for gaming I made myself the administrator on it because I liked to test out various things on the laptop. It only recently started saying the previously mentioned issue when I took out the Wi-Fi chip and plug got back in after about 10 seconds I turned it on after a minute and it was trying to set up a dns itself but ultimately failed. That’s with the factory Wi-Fi chip I have a newer one that’s rated for the laptop model coming in and this should fix my issue.
I appreciate you taking your time to help just been needing some advice on my unique experience.

Mainly just needing some guidance on doing a driver update using only Cmd as that's the only way I can update the drivers right now. After their updated then it'll fix its issue as it was a outdated driver on the old wifi chip that is causing this issue.

You’re in a tricky situation, but we can definitely work through it. Since you're limited to Command Prompt (CMD) and your Wi-Fi adapter isn't working, here’s how to manually install the correct driver using CMD.
What You'll Need:
- A working PC with internet access (to download the driver)
- A USB drive
- Your HP Pavilion Gaming 15-cx0xxx Wi-Fi driver from HP or Intel
Step 1: Download the Correct Driver
- Go to the HP support site or Intel's Wi-Fi driver page.
- Search for:
HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0xxx - Download the Wi-Fi driver (typically Intel or Realtek, depending on your model).
- Make sure to get the .exe or unzipped .inf and .sys files.
- Copy the entire folder to a USB drive.
Step 2: Plug the USB into the Broken Laptop
- On the broken laptop, open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Find the drive letter of the USB:
Cmd: diskpart
list volume
exit
- Navigate to the USB folder containing the driver:
Cmd: cd /d X:\YourDriverFolder
Replace X: with your USB’s drive letter.
Step 3: Install the Driver via CMD
Option A: If You Have.INF Driver File
Use pnputil to install it:
Cmd: pnputil /add-driver *.inf /install
Or specify the exact file name:
Cmd: pnputil /add-driver wifi_driver.inf /install
Option B: If it’s an .exe Installer
Try launching it with:
Cmd: start setup.exe
Or
Cmd: .\setup.exe
If the EXE has silent install support:
Cmd: setup.exe /silent
Step 4: Reboot and Check Adapter
Once installed, reboot:
Cmd: shutdown /r /t 0
Then check if the Wi-Fi adapter is back:
Cmd: netsh wlan show interfaces
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
