Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP Notebook - 15-f272wm and it does not boot into Windows. The laptop displays a message saying "preparing automatic repair" and nothing happens after that. Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Did any software changes or updates happen on the laptop?
  • Have you attempted to run any tests?

While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Do not power on the laptop yet.

Now, let us run a hardware test on the laptop. The following steps should help:

  • Turn on the laptop and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  • On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  • The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

  • Please initiate a Hard Drive/Storage Tests - There are six hard drive tests, and they can take from 10 minutes to 2 hours or more to complete.

To run the hard drive tests, follow the steps in Hard Drive Tests.

If the hard drive test passes then you may try performing a Microsoft Push Button Reset. This repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This can be done either while preserving your personal data and customizations, or removing all your personal data. Please follow the steps mentioned in "Performing a push-button reset through Windows Recovery Environment" from this HP document: https://hp.care/2toQrBj

In case the hard drive test fails then you may contact our HP phone support team to check the available service options for your laptop:

1) Click on this link - https://hp.care/2moMFSc

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device. You can refer to this Link: hp.care/2bygf7l for help in locating your Serial Number.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

6) Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Hope this information helps. Feel free to let me know how it goes.

Cheers! 🙂

@BrianPerez545

Thank you for keeping me updated.

Based on the results (Short Dst Check-Failed) indicates that the hard drive has failed and because of this the laptop did not bootup.

It would be a good idea to contact our HP phone support team to explore the available service options for your laptop.

In case you have any further questions then let me know. It is a pleasure to assist you.

Take care! 🙂
