Elitebook 8540w
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello, I have an HP Elitebook 8540w with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit OS installed on it. I want to install Windows 10 Pro, so I go to the Microsoft website and I download the tool which I then use to make a bootable flash drive (I am not sure if that's how it's called) on a USB memory stick Maxell 32GB with FAT32 standard. I manage to create the USB tool and everything seems fine, but when I restart the laptop, with the USB stick inserted into the USB port, the booting freezes at the beginning of the process. I can read the message that says to press ESC to go to the BIOS settings but the laptop isn't responsive when I press anything. It also doesn't load and stays on the same stage. The only thing that is happening is the Num lock and Caps lock indicators start blinking. When I take the USB stick with the Windows 10 out of the USB port and turn off-on the laptop, it boots normally and my already installed Windows 7 loads without problems. I tried the same memory stick with the Windows 10 on my old desktop computer, which still has Windows XP on it, and there I don't have any problems. The PC boots and I am able to go to the boot options and choose the USB drive with the Windows 10 on it and I am able to initiate the process of installing the Windows 10.

So what seems to be the problem with my HP laptop and how can I install Windows 10 on it?

I managed to find a solution. I just used one of the USB 2.0 ports instead of the USB 3.0, wich I was using earlier, and it worked. I am sure the USB 3.0 ports are working since I am using them all the time for file transfer, but for some reason I couldn't install windows 10 using them.

This is the version of the BIOS: Hewlett-Packard 68CVD Ver. F.21, 29.3.2012
