Hi @PK301,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Notebook 15 is stuck on "Getting Windows ready" after an update, it can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  1. Wait it Out: Sometimes, the update process can take a while. It's possible that the update is still in progress. Give it some time, and it might eventually complete. If you see a spinning circle of dots, it means Windows is doing something in the background. Wait for at least 30 minutes to an hour to see if it progresses.

  2. Hard Reset: If waiting doesn't work, you can perform a hard reset on your laptop. To do this, press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until your laptop powers off. Then turn it back on. This might force the laptop to boot normally.

  3. Safe Mode: You can try to boot into Safe Mode and see if you can complete the update from there. To do this, press and hold the power button to force a shutdown a couple of times. This should trigger the Automatic Repair process. When you get the Automatic Repair screen, select "Advanced options" and then "Startup Settings." Choose "Safe Mode" and see if you can complete the update from there.

  4. Windows Update Troubleshooter: If you can access the Windows desktop, you can try running the Windows Update Troubleshooter. To do this, go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, and then run the Windows Update troubleshooter.

  5. Use System Restore: If the above steps don't work, you can try to use System Restore to go back to a point before the problematic update was installed. To do this, you'll need to access Advanced Startup Options. To get there, restart your computer, and when it's starting up, press the power button to force a shutdown a couple of times. This should trigger Automatic Repair. From there, choose "Advanced options" and then "System Restore."

  6. Recovery Options: If none of the above methods work, you might need to use installation media or a recovery drive to perform a repair or reinstall of Windows.

Always remember to back up your important data before attempting any major system changes, as some of these solutions may involve making changes to your operating system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
